“YOU FEEL THIS MYRTE SCENT, do you hear the boars? That’s Corsica.” You don’t arrive on the island without the pleasure of a little giggle. These barely outlying French departments are some of the most beautiful sceneries in the country, and every time, that’s the impression that prevails when we land in Figari. We have appointments with four of the island’s elite winemakers. No, we did not go to see the great pioneers, Arena, Imbert, Abbatucci. We headed south to meet Gérard Courrèges (domaine de Vaccelli), Gilles Seroin (domaine Sant’Armettu), Yves Canarelli (a legend) and his friend Patrick Fioramonti. Together, these two have decided to bring the limestone soils of Bonifacio back to life with a project called Tarra di Sognu, a five-hectare vineyard on the Mediterranean coast.
