Château Léoville Poyferré

Domaine.

The cru is situated in its privileged area opposite the best plots of Léoville-Las Cases and in the extension of those of Pichon-Longueville Baron. The wine reflects this position perfectly, regularly one of the most powerful but also the most complex and harmonious of all Médoc. A slightly higher percentage of Merlot than the other two Leovilles influences its slightly rounder texture. Sara Lecompte-Cuvelier ensures the continuity of the excellence that has been achieved. Pavillon-de-poyferré, now the château’s true second wine, is progressing, as is Moulin-riche, from its own neighbourhood.

  • AOP Saint-Julien, Château Léoville Poyferré 2014 (red). We have been saying it for years: Léoville Poyferré has slowly but surely climbed into the meagre ranks of the great Médoc classics. A purist’s wine, far from being inaccessible, the cru, managed with finesse by Didier Cuvelier, is always magnificently constructed for ageing, without emphasis but with that very Bordeaux sense of brilliance and freshness. It shines in a 2014 vintage with a great Havana nose, developing a complete ensemble, with noble tannin, always seductive. One of our favourites in this vintage, which deserves to remain for a long time in the cellar of the honest man. 96/100
