Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, etc. When you see the signs for the Médoc wine-producing villages scrolling past on the D2, you can’t help but think of Oscar Wilde’s quip: “The French are so proud of their wines that they have named some of their towns after Grand Crus”. The myth was born in 1855 with the classification requested by Napoleon III. Of the 61 grands crus classés, 60 are from the Médoc.
